Welcome to Harmony Equine Services

I'm Sophie and I am passionate about ensuring your horse has access to the highest quality bit fitting services. I am a Bit Bank Australia-trained bit fitter and current student of Equitation Science, studying under Dr Andrew McLean. I have been riding since I was 6 years old and have 3 beautiful horses of my own – a Belgian Draft gelding, a retired Thorough bred gelding and a young Australian draft mare, currently unbroken. I love all aspects of riding and ground work and I am at my happiest trekking through the beautiful Tasmanian countryside when I am not riding and learning in the arena for my ESI studies. I have competed extensively in working hunter, show jumping and cross country competitions when I was younger but I am now passionate about developing my learning in horse behaviour, bio mechanics and equitation science.

I offer professional bit fitting services and am able to order bits for your horse through Bit Bank Australia if required.

Why use a professional bit fitter?

Most riders use a saddle fitter’s service to ensure their saddle fits their horse correctly. But what about the bit?

“We use the saddle to communicate to the horse with our seat and weight, and the next big communication component is the bit and reins.”

Not every horse’s mouth is conformed the same and can vary drastically between animals. They may have low palates, sensitive tongues or sharp bars. A bit may not be a miracle cure that fixes all of a horse’s training issues, but it can help with contact and optimize communication with the rider.

Many horse owners will walk into a tack shop and make an educated guess from bits on display. Most shops have a wall full of bits and that can be intimidating. Most riders have tack boxes full of bits they don’t use. While there is an up-front cost in having
a bit fitting, in the long run there’s benefit because you won’t have to keep buying different bits”
